Trabzonspor's on-loan Stoke City midfielder Badou Ndiaye has undergone surgery on a recurring knee problem, a report from Stoke on Trent Live has revealed.

Ndiaye, who joined Trabzonspor on loan from the Potters back in the January transfer window, has apparently been playing through the pain during his time with his temporary club, who are currently leading the Turkish top-flight on goal difference ahead of Istanbul Basaksehir.

However, with football in Turkey now - like in much of the rest of the World - suspended for the foreseeable future, Ndiaye has reportedly taken the chance to have an operation on his left knee in a bid to rectify the issue that has been causing him problems recently.

According to reports, that procedure has been a success, and Ndiaye is continuing to make good progress in his recovery.

Since his move to Trabzonspor at the start of the year, Ndiaye has made 13 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing four assists.

Despite the fact he is contracted to Stoke until the end of the 2021/22 season, Trabzonspor do have the option to make the 29-year-old's move permanent when the transfer window reopens.

The Verdict

This looks to be encouraging for Ndiaye.

With things having not really worked out for him at Stoke since their relegation from the Premier League, it does seem as though a permanent move elsewhere in the summer would be the midfielder's preferred outcome.

With Trabzonspor holding the option to make that move permanent, it does seem as though Ndiaye has a good opportunity to secure that move, providing he can impress during his time in Turkey, and having this operation to get him back towards fitness is something that should help him do that.
