Stoke City have sacked Nathan Jones after a run of ten defeats in 14 league games this season.

The Potters currently sit 23rd in the Championship table and have had an awful start to the current campaign.

Nathan Jones took over in January, but has failed to build any sort of momentum or form since he came into the club and the Potters look like they are regressing.

Stoke face West Brom on Monday, in what is a crucial fixture for the club as they don't want to be further adrift from survival after the match against Slaven Bilic's side.

The club is yet to name a replacement, and Jones has thanked the fans for their support during his time at the club.

Speaking to Stoke's official website, Jones said: “I would like to thank John and Peter Coates, firstly for the opportunity to manage this Football Club and then for the continued support and patience throughout my time here. I would also like to thank the supporters for their fantastic support. Finally, I wish the Club the very best for the future.”

The Verdict

It's a massive decision that has come at quite an odd time considering it's a Friday before a game on the Monday. They must have someone lined up to take over at the club otherwise they surely wouldn't have left it this long after the Millwall game to make the decision.

His passion for the club was always there, and you can't help but feel bad for him that it didn't work out at Stoke. The spirit he showed after the Potters had beaten Fulham was sensational, but something clearly wasn't right behind the scenes as they could never build on a positive result.

The next manager is so crucial for the club, and they have to get back a winning feeling around Stoke and they need the players to fight for eachother.
