Stoke City have launched a bid to sign Sam Clucas on deadline day, according to The Sun.

Clucas was widely tipped to be making a move to Burnley but the Premier League side pulled the plug on the deal due to the player's knee injury.

Now Stoke are looking to prise him away from Swansea City in an £8m deal.

Sky Sports are now reporting that Clucas is at Stoke undergoing a medical before signing a permanent contract with the Potters, although Sky sources believe the fee is £6m.

The 27-year-old is a versatile player who can operate anywhere across the midfield.

Clucas rose to prominence while with Hull City, helping them win promotion to the Premier League via the 2015/16 Championship play-offs.

But after suffering relegation with Hull, the former Lincoln City man moved to Swansea City to stay in the top flight.

He was relegated to the Championship again for the second successive season and now he could leave the Liberty Stadium.

The Verdict

This is a good signing for Stoke in the Championship.

Clucas is versatile, he offers plenty of running and work rate and he knows how to win promotion.

Stoke's squad is looking very strong with the addition of Clucas.
