Premier League side Leicester City have joined Stoke City in the race to sign Guingamp forward Matthias Phaeton, according to reports from French media outlet RMC Sport.
The 18-year old is highly regarded at the Ligue 1 club, and after a string of impressive performances in the French club’s youth ranks, the highly-rated forward was even linked with a move to European giants Juventus.
But despite being regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the French leagues, Phaeton is still yet to sign a professional contract with the club, and it is believed that an €800,000 bid could be enough to lure him away from the club – despite Guingamp wanting to loan
Both the Foxes and the Potters have reportedly enquired about the forward, with the latter keen to improve their firepower to galvanise a push up the Sky Bet Championship table.
Stoke boss Gary Rowett has come under serious scrutiny in recent weeks – the Staffordshire club currently sit 14th in the table, eight points off the play-off places despite an influx of big-money summer signings.
On paper, Phaeton doesn’t look like the most prolific of goalscorers in Ligue 2, but various media outlets in France are saying that he could be a really talented player.
Stoke need any boost that comes their way, with the likes of Benik Afobe struggling to find the net regularly this season.
For €800,000, he could be a real bargain, and Rowett needs to get this one wrapped up – albeit if he keeps his job.
