Stoke City could look for players in return if they agree to allow Xherdan Shaqiri to leave the club, as manager Gary Rowett looks to get something other than money in return for the Swiss talent.

According to the Mirror, Stoke will look to get someone in return on a loan deal if as expected, a Premier League club activates a £13m release clause in the winger's contract over the summer.

The Potters are looking to reshape their squad this summer under new manager Rowett and will be keen to sort out any deal for Shaqiri quickly, with the club keen on adding replacements, such as Newcastle's Matt Ritchie, who is being lined up for a move to the Bet365 Stadium from Newcastle.

However, despite the incoming signing of Ritchie, Rowett is keen to make sure he does not feel short changed from any deal for Shaquiri, who is going to be leaving for what many believe is way below his market value thanks to the relegation release clause in his contract.

Stoke are looking to bounce back to the Premier League following their relegation last term. They have seemingly handed Rowett a big transfer budget to get the job done, but it would appear Shaqiri is not going to be part of any plans this season.

Potters fans, what do you make of this? Shrewd move from Rowett? Let us know in the comments!
