Gary Rowett is already making moves in the transfer market as he looks to build a squad at Stoke City that is capable of bouncing back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
The Potters are close to signing Wolves forward Benik Afobe for around £12m and are also hopeful of signing Watford striker Andre Gray to partner him up top.
That’s the latest according to The Sun reporter Alan Nixon who stated that the Staffordshire club are prepared to pay around £14m to land the 26-year old.
Gray, who was a big-money signing for Watford 12 months ago, hasn’t found his best form at Vicarage Road, scoring just five goals in the season just gone.
However, he has proven himself in the Championship over the years, playing a key role in Burnley’s promotion to the top-flight in 2016.
Whether a deal happens remains to be seen, as whilst Nixon suggests Watford would be open to selling the player, there are doubts about Gray’s willingness to drop down a division.
Stoke are making serious moves already in the window and if they coudl get Afobe and Gray to the club they would become firm favourites for promotion.
Afobe’s deal looks highly likely and Gray would offer a similar sort of threat. He is quick, powerful, makes intelligent runs and is a goal scorer.
He would be a real coup for the club if they can convince him to drop down to the second tier.
