Stoke City leading Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Coventry City in race to sign defender

Stoke City are believed to be favourites to sign Morgan Fox ahead of the 2020/21 season according to TEAMtalk.

Fox is a free-agent after his deal with Sheffield Wednesday reached a conclusion after the completion of this year’s league campaign.

The left-back was a rare bright spark in a disappointing league campaign for the Owls, as they finished 16th in the second tier standings.

He made 32 appearances for Garry Monk’s side last term, and chipped in with three goals and one assist.

TEAMtalk also claim that the likes of Nottingham Forest, Coventry City, Barnsley and Middlesbrough are also interested in signing Fox, although the Potters are believed to be the frontrunners to strike an agreement with the defender.

Stoke finished 15th in the Championship table this season, which will be frustrating for the club’s supporters, although they showed a positive run of results towards the end of this year’s campaign under the management of Michael O’Neill.

The Potters thrashed Nottingham Forest 4-1 on the final day of the season, which will certainly be a morale-booster for the Stoke squad.

The club’s supporters will be eager to see their side build on that impressive performance as they turn their attentions to next season.

What shirt number does Stephen Ward currently wear for Stoke City?

The Verdict:

This would be a very good signing by the Potters.

Fox really impressed me with Sheffield Wednesday this season, and I wasn’t surprised to hear that other clubs were interested in signing him ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

He’s had a positive impact at both ends of the pitch, and would certainly be more than capable of starting on a regular basis for Stoke City next season.

They need players that can play consistently at a high standard in the Championship, and Fox fits that description perfectly.
