Stoke City are keen on signing Huddersfield Town winger Thomas Ince, which could impact a deal for Matt Ritchie who had been interesting the Potters.
Gary Rowett is desperate to bring in at least one winger to the club after Xherdan Shaqiri moved to Liverpool for £13.5m last week.
And, Sky Sports are reporting that the former Derby boss has turned his attention to Ince who is playing for the top-flight Terriers.
The 26-year-old featured regularly under David Wagner last season as the Yorkshire side stopped up, playing 33 games.
Ince is also currently away on a pre-season tour with Huddersfield, with the team in Frankfurt as they build up to the new season.
However, he managed just two goals all season and will face more competition for his place next season as Ramadan Sobhi joined from the Potters and further arrivals are expected.
Yet, should the Staffordshire side pursue a deal for Ince it could prevent them going for Newcastle’s Ritchie, who had been a top target for Rowett in this window.
Ince has proven himself to be a very good player in the Championship over the years so he would be a fine addition for Stoke.
Whether he will be open to moving back down to the second-tier remains to be seen but Stoke have been very ambitious so far in this window.
It’s clear Rowett is looking for a real quality Shaqiri replacement and if Ritchie or Ince end up at the club they will be great options for the manager.
