Stoke City are expected to tie down Tyrese Campbell to a long-term contract as the forward has opted to stay with the Potters.
The 20-year-old has been a real positive in recent weeks, scoring his fifth goal of the season as Michael O’Neill’s men beat West Brom on Monday night.
With his contract up in the summer, Stoke faced the possibility of losing Campbell and whilst they would be entitled to compensation, it would be a big blow for the club.
However, there is great news on that front, with the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (14:13) confirming that the youngster is poised to sign a new deal with the Championship side in the next 24 hours after rejecting the likes of Celtic and Rangers.
They add that it has been the appointment of O’Neill that has convinced the player his future lies in Staffordshire, with the Northern Ireland chief regularly starting Campbell in recent weeks. And, he has repaid that faith by scoring four league goals in his past five games.
But, the former Manchester City youth player will miss tomorrow’s game with Swansea after injury forced him off in the win at Albion last time out.
Do you know where these 15 ex-Stoke City players are playing now?
This is fantastic news for Stoke City as Campbell is a player with huge potential and losing him would have been a significant blow.
The player deserves huge credit because he has turned down moves to bigger clubs because he wants to play first-team football and the signs are that he will be a key man under O’Neill.
He has proven his worth in recent weeks and when he comes back from his injury he will have a big role to play as the Potters look to stay in the division.
After a long saga, Stoke will be relieved and delighted at this outcome.
