Stoke City are considering a move to bring Danny Simpson on board, with the Leicester City defender falling down the pecking order with the Premier League club.

The window for permanent transfers closed earlier this month, but EFL clubs are still able to add players on-loan between now and the end of August.

The Potters are amongst those clubs looking to do that, with Gary Rowett considering a move to bring Simpson on board, according to a report in the Telegraph.

The report claims that the 31-year-old is effectively third choice now at the King Power Stadium, with Leicester bolstering their right-back options under Claude Puel.

Simpson came through the ranks at Manchester United, before spending time out on-loan with the likes of Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United.

Newcastle took the defender on board permanently, with the defender making over 100 league appearances for the Magpies prior to a spell with Queens Park Rangers.

During his time at Leicester, Simpson has made 107 Premier League appearances, including 30 during the 2015/16 campaign, as the Foxes were crowned Champions of England against all odds.

This season, Simpson looks like he will see his game time limited, with Puel leaving him out of Friday night’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

The Verdict

Rowett’s side have endured a tricky start to the Championship season, with the Stoke boss already wanting more recruits in despite a busy summer.

Simpson could be a shrewd loan addition, with the right-back having a wealth of experience at a host of different clubs.

The 31-year-old would help improve Stoke’s options in defence and bring even more experience to Rowett’s dressing room.
