Stoke City have boosted their promotion credentials with the signing of Benik Afobe from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

On the club's official website, Stoke announced the signing of Afobe on an initial six month loan deal with an obligation to make that deal permanent in the January transfer window.

The fee that they will pay Wolves remains undisclosed.

Afobe joins the Potters just days after he signed for Wolves on a permanent deal from Bournemouth.

The former Arsenal academy product had been on loan at Molineux for the second half of last season, scoring six goals to help Nuno Espirito Santo's side win promotion to the Premier League.

Following their promotion, Wolves swooped to sign the DR Congo international on a permanent deal but he has already moved on again with Stoke snapping him up.

Afobe enjoyed his most prolific season of his career during his last spell with Wolves in the Championship, where he netted 23 goals in 48 matches for the West Midlands outfit.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed less success in the Premier League, managing just 10 goals in 63 games for the Cherries.

Afobe becomes Stoke's second signing in the space of two days after Nigerian international winger Oghenekaro Etebo joined from Feirense.

The Verdict

Afobe is a very good signing for Stoke in the Championship as he has a proven track record of goals at this level.

With strength and pace, Stoke can get the centre-forward back to his best form with plenty of game time in the second tier as the main striker.

If this earns them a place back in the Premier League, it will be worth the rumoured eight-figure outlay.
