Stoke City have completed the signing of centre back Aden Flint on a free transfer, the Championship club have announced.

Flint had been a free agent after Stoke's Championship rivals Cardiff City earlier this summer, following the expiry of his contract with the Bluebirds.

During a three-year spell in the Welsh capital, Flint made 93 appearances in all competitions for Cardiff, scoring 12 goals in that time.

Now, despite his departure from Cardiff, the 32-year-old is well set to continue his long spell in the Championship, where he has also been on the books of Bristol City and Middlesbrough.

It has now been confirmed that Stoke have completed the signing of Flint on a free transfer following his exit from Cardiff, making him the Potters' first senior signing of the summer transfer window.

The 32-year-old has signed a one-year contract with Potters, securing his future at the club until the end of next season.

Stoke will go into the 2022/23 campaign looking to improve on a somewhat underwhelming 14th place finish in the Championship from last season.

The Verdict

This does look as though it could be a rather useful signing for Stoke City.

With James Chester having been released, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis' loan now over, the Potters now need to bring in some extra options for the centre of defence.

In Flint they have got someone to fill that role, who possesses plenty of Championship experience and ability, which makes him a useful figure for them to turn to at this level.

Having signed him on a free transfer as well, there is little financial risk attached to this deal, so it does look like an all round solid piece of business from the club.
