Stoke City manager Nathan Jones has insisted that his side have to do better defensively, ahead of the Championship clash against Leeds United tomorrow.

The Potters have made a disappointing start to the new campaign, taking just one point from their opening four league matches and are currently bottom of the Championship table on goal difference.

Stoke have lost three of their opening four games in the Championship so far this season and currently have the worst defensive record in the division, conceding at least two goals in each match.

Jones has been speaking to the media ahead of the clash against Leeds at the Bet365 Stadium tomorrow and admitted that his side have to be stronger defensively this season.

Leeds are unbeaten in the Championship this season and are currently top of the league table on goal difference.

Marcelo Bielsa's side will go into the game full of confidence after back-to-back wins against Wigan Athletic and Brentford.

The Verdict

You have to agree with Jones here.

It's very difficult to win football matches at this level when you're conceding so many goals and if Stoke are to challenge for promotion from the Championship this season, they have to do better defensively - there's no doubt about that.

As for the offensive side, Stoke have got some good attacking players in their side and it's not as if they're going to struggle to create chances in games in the Championship this season, but they have to be more clinical.

Leeds have also got some very talented attacking players, so Stoke will face a very difficult game at the weekend and they have to defend better if they're to stand any chance of coming away with a positive result.
