Stoke City have announced that Charlie Adam, Darren Fletcher and Jakob Haugaard will not be offered new deals with the club and will depart this summer.
The decision will spell and end to seven years in Staffordshire for Adam, who was part of the Potters side that regularly secured top-half Premier League finishes.
However, he also featured as they struggled in the top-flight and even though he has been involved in the squad since Nathan Jones was appointed, his time at the club is up.
The call on 35-year-old Fletcher will have been more straightforward, with the ex-Manchester United man regularly failing to make the matchday 18 in the past few months and he’s had just six minutes of game time this year.
The final departure will see goalkeeper Haugaard leave after four years with the club but he is third choice and has struggled to play regular football since his arrival.
This is sure to be the start of a very busy summer for boss Jones, with a major clearout expected after a disappointing campaign for the pre-season title favourites in the Championship.
These decisions were to be expected and you would imagine that the fans will welcome the news as they know the club needs a real shake up this summer.
Adam’s departure will be the one that impacts Stoke supporters most as he played his part in the good times over the years but they recognise that changes are needed.
There’s going to be a huge turnover of players at the club and Jones will already be identifying replacements he can bring in.
