Stoke, Swansea and Hull are all interested in signing St Johnstone midfielder Alistair McCann, a report from a print edition of The Sun (27/06, p61) has claimed.

A graduate of St Johnstone's academy, McCann has made a total of 84 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring six goals.

The midfielder helped St Johnstone to an historic Scottish cup double last season, and it now seems as though he is attracting plenty of attention from the Championship.

According to this latest update, Stoke are trying to find funds for the signing of McCann, with Hull and Swansea also keen on the 21-year-old, who has been capped six times by Northern Ireland.

It is thought that St Johnstone are demanding somewhere in the region of £1million for the sale of McCann.

As things stand, there are two years remaining on McCann's current deal with St Johnstone, securing his future at the club until the end of the 2022/23 season, putting the Scottish club in a decent position to negotiate any offers that come in.

The Verdict

This could be a decent signing for one of these Championship sides you feel.

McCann hasn't taken long to make an impression at St Johnstone, and at such an early stage of his career, he does have the potential to develop and improve even further.

That is something that could make him an asset to one of these sides for some time to come, and you do feel as though those linked might benefit from some extra options in midfield.

Given the price they recently received from the sale of Nathan Collins as well, it could be argued that Stoke in particular ought to be able to afford the asking price here, meaning it may be no surprise if McCann is in the Championship next season.
