Stoke City and Middlesbrough are amongst the teams tracking Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter, according to the Sun.

Premier League sides Cardiff City and Newcastle United are also monitoring the 28-year-old Eire international, who seems to be on his way out of Dean Court after the arrival of £25m Colombian Jefferson Lerma.

Arter has played in three of the four divisions for Bournemouth, joining shortly after their promotion from League Two in June 2010. He's gone on to make 255 senior appearances for the Cherries, scoring 29 times.

His best goal haul came in 2014/15 as they stormed to the Premier League, he grabbed nine that season, all in the Championship.

Last season Arter started just 11 Premier League games, coming off the bench on a further two occasions, but his time on the south coast appears to be coming to an end.

He's represented the Republic of Ireland 13 times since making his debut in their 0-0 draw with England in 2015.

The Verdict

The interesting factor here is the interest from Newcastle and Cardiff. Arter would have an impact in the second-tier, there's little doubt about that, but why would he drop down if there's a chance to remain in the top flight.

Also, what does it tell you about Newcastle and Cardiff that they're interested in a midfielder who can't get into the Bournemouth first team?
