Stoke City are among a host of clubs who are interested in signing experienced goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

The Bournemouth stopper is thought to be surplus to requirements under Eddie Howe at the Vitality Stadium, and according to the Daily Star, Stoke are among the likes of Celtic and Watford in showing interest in snapping up the Bosnian star.

A former Chelsea 'keeper, Begovic moved to Bournemouth in a big money move only a couple of seasons ago, but has been semingly cast to one side by Howe, although in the report Begovic claims he is happy with the club, and 'respects' Howe's decisions as manager.

Stoke on the other hand are on the lookout for a goalkeeper as interest in England stopper Jack Butland continues to heat up in the early weeks of the transfer window, with the Potters well aware that they will do very well to keep hold of the goalkeeper.

Begovic has already spent time with Stoke prior to his move to Chelsea, and a move back into the Championship might well appeal to the Bosnian on a loan deal if he is indeed knocked down the pecking order again at Bournemouth.

Celtic are also credited with an interest as Neil Lennon scouts the English market once again for players who might be available for his Scottish champions.

The Verdict

I can't see Begovic making the move back into the Championship, but I can see why Stoke would like him.

He's a class act on his day and one of the most slept on top 'keepers in the Premier League.

It's a shame it's not quite gone brilliantly for him at the Cherries, but rest assured, he still has so much to offer.

If Stoke did pull this off as a replacement for Butland, then it would be a superb piece of business indeed.
