Aston Villa fans have been treated to some truly wonderful times at Villa Park over the years, and although the club has fallen on hard times following their relegation from the Premier League, a new era of greatness could be on the horizon in the West Midlands should they be promoted this season.

Fans will remember competing towards the top of the Premier League, enjoying ventures to far-flung European destinations, and producing a plethora of top talent that have gone on to achieve greatness across the European game.

The club are always keen to remind fans of better times, and last night looked back at the 1998 UEFA Cup semi-final tie against Atletico Madrid, when a late salvo from club legend Stan Collymore left the Villains just a single goal away from heading to the final of the competition.

Collymore came off the bench to bag twice to put Villa within touching distance of a European final, and although the club didn’t quite make the last two, memories of the night will be burned into the minds of those present for the rest of their lives.

The club shared a video of one of Collymore’s strikes on their official Twitter page to celebrate the pundit’s birthday, and fans took to the social media site to share their excitement over the famous night….
