After a fairly average season last year which saw them finish 15th in the league, Swansea City are keen to push further up the table in the Championship next season.

Russell Martin has made a number of signings so far including securing Joe Allen on a free transfer so business is going well for his side so far in preparation for the new season.

However, the boss is keen to make some further additions as the campaign edges closer and it has been said by reporter Mike McGrath that they are one of a number of clubs in the Championship considering a move for Aaron Mooy this summer.

The 31-year-old had a big part to play in Huddersfield's promotion to the top flight in 2017 and most recently played for Shanghai Port in China.

However, with a return to England on the cards, we asked some of our writers at FLW for their thoughts on the potential move.

Aaron Mooy is a very experienced player at Championship level.

He may have been somewhat forgotten having played his football in China for the last two years, but he certainly still has plenty to offer.

He is still just 31-years-old and he has shown what quality he has at Championship level during his time at Huddersfield.

Since then, too, he has played 96 times in the Premier League, which you have to think will have made him an even better player.

For a side in the Championship, Mooy is more than a player worth doing a deal and taking a risk on.

He'd certainly be a good addition at Swansea.

Whereas it may take Mooy some time to readjust to life in the Championship, there is no reason why he cannot go on to excel in the heart of Swansea's midfield.

During his spell at this level with Huddersfield Town, the Australian managed to provide a respectable total of 11 direct goal contributions in 49 appearances.

Having already secured the services of Joe Allen this summer, Swansea could help to fill the void left by Flynn Downes by swooping for Mooy.

Providing that Swansea nail their recruitment between now and the end of the transfer window, they could potentially move forward as a club under the guidance of head coach Russell Martin

Billy Mulley

I do like Aaron Mooy and I think he would bring value to a number of Championship clubs, however, I am not entirely sure that Swansea would be a right fit.

A porgressive player, who is brave in possession and is a risk-taker, I am not sure that he will be best-suited for Russell Martin's possession-based style of play.

Wherever his next move will be, he will be eager to secure regular game time, something that simply cannot be promised if he is to arrive at the Swansea.com Stadium this summer.

Still possessing final-third quality and the ability to carve defences open, there are certainly reasons why he could be as success in South Wales, but ultimately, he is more likely to thrive at one of the other clubs currently chasing him.
