Stevenage captain is a doubt for play-off semi-final second leg

Stevenage captain Bira Dembele is a doubt for Thursday’s game at Southend due to a head injury, according to The Comet.
Dembele suffered a clash of heads with Shrimpers midfielder Michael Timlin in the first half of the Boro’s play-off semi final first leg at the Lamex Stadium.
Timlin was substituted immediately, and required fifteen stitches, whilst Dembele was replaced at half-time by manager Graham Westley.
Today, Westley was non-committal on whether or not his captain would feature on Thursday.
“He’s fine in himself – he’s much better today,” he said to The Comet.
“He had a scan after the game which was clean – that was positive. He’s settling now and improving day by day. We’ll see how he is when he’s in (on Wednesday).”
“The scan was as good as we expected it to be. If you saw the collision you’ll be certain there are some symptoms of concussion but the extent is for the doctors, Bira and the physiotherapy team to look at.”
Dembele was replaced by Jon Ashton, with the former likely to start on Thursday night.
The game finished 1-1, and Stevenage must now prepare for the second leg at Roots Hall.
