West Brom coach Steven Reid admitted it was 'horrible' to see the side crash out of the play-offs on penalties against Aston Villa last night.

The former player returned to The Hawthorns to assist caretaker boss Jimmy Shan last month, with the target to help Albion back to the Premier League. However, they came up short in tough circumstances against their local rivals last night.

The Baggies managed to get back level in the tie after losing the first leg 2-1 through Craig Dawson but they had to cling on for penalties after Chris Brunt was sent off with ten minutes of normal play remaining.

Whilst they did get to spot-kicks, they lost out but Reid took to Twitter to praise the fans and revealed how he had loved working at the club again.

"Has been an absolute pleasure to be back at @WBA over the last month. Atmosphere was incredible last night but a horrible way to go out. Big thanks @Jimmy_shan78 for the call. Really enjoyed working alongside a great staff and players."

Albion will be on the lookout for a new boss now so Reid's time at the club will be up.

The Verdict

This is a nice message from Reid who will have been gutted that the side couldn't win the shootout.

He, along with Shan and Michael Appleton, deserve credit for how they got the side playing over the two legs and last night's battling display will certainly have been appreciated by the supporters.

Unfortunately for Reid he will be on the move now as a new manager is lined up who will probably want his own backroom team.
