Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack has been told to find a new club during the remaining weeks of the loan window with Steven Gerrard interested in bringing the striker back to Rangers, according to Team Talk.

The 32-year-old has never got on with Villa boss Steve Bruce and he was snubbed of a shirt number when they were revealed at the start of August, so this is not too big a surprise.

Rangers, where McCormack began his career, have emerged as one of the clubs keen on signing the striker with Sunderland another potential suitor.

Team Talk also report that there has been interest from Turkey, but McCormack would rather stay in Britain.

Villa are reportedly willing to pay the vast majority of McCormack's wages during his loan spell which has made the move all the more appealing to many clubs.

The striker spent the first half of last season on loan at Australian club Melbourne City where he scored 14 goals in 17 A-League games.

The Scot moved to Villa from Fulham in the summer of 2016 but has never found his feet in Birmingham spending time on loan at Nottingham Forest and then Melbourne.

The verdict

This would be a decent move for all parties.

At 32, it would perhaps be a tad foolish for Rangers to commit to a contract with the striker so a loan deal would be perfect.

If he could recapture the form he showed in Australia he will be a very useful weapon for Steven Gerrard north of the border and operating away from the microscope of English football could be perfect for McCormack.
