Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed that defender Joe Worrall will remain at Ibrox for the rest of the season.

The centre-back joined in the summer on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest but there was speculation that he could return to the East Midlands this month after several injuries for the Reds at the heart of their defence.

However, the Liverpool legend told the Gers media that the clubs had spoken and the 22-year-old will be staying.

"We have spoken to Nottingham Forest, Joe will remain here until the end of the season. He was superb in the old firm match and we are happy with the job he has done."

After a slow start, Worrall has impressed for the Glasgow side and he put in a very impressive performance last time out as they beat local rivals Celtic to close the gap at the top of the league.

Meanwhile, Forest have appointed ex-Hoops boss Martin O'Neill as their new manager but he won't be able to call on Worrall now as he looks to solve their defensive issues.

The Verdict

This is good news for Rangers as Worrall has started to develop a strong partnership with Connor Goldson in defence and will be an important player for their title push.

Given Forest's situation you can imagine that they did want him back but we don't know the terms of the initial deal and if that was possible.

Either way, it suits everyone that his future has been clarified.
