Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has admitted that he would like to sign Liverpool winger Ryan Kent this summer, as he remains a transfer target for Leeds United.

The 22-year-old scored six goals and provided ten assists in 43 appearances in all competitions while on loan at Rangers last season and Gerrard is hoping to see the player return to Ibrox next season.

Leeds are also interested in signing Kent on loan next season, with head coach Marcelo Bielsa looking to bolster his attacking options, following his decision to remain in charge at Elland Road for another season.

The Whites will face competition from Rangers to sign Kent and it reported at the weekend that Leeds have ended their interest in the winger, although the Yorkshire Evening Post claim that he is still one of their top transfer targets.

Gerrard believes that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will want to take a closer look at Kent this summer before making a decision on his future, but has admitted that he would like to sign the winger on another loan next season.

"Yes we would like Ryan Kent back but the reality is he's Liverpool's player so we have to respect that," Gerrard said when quizzed on another Rangers move, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post's Lee Sobot.

"Jurgen Klopp, I'm sure, will want to take a look at Ryan so we’ll respect Liverpool’s decision on which direction they want to take on the situation but we are at the table.

"We love the player, we feel as if we did a good job with him for 12 months and feel there's more to come in the job we'd like to do with him. The reality it is there is competition and Liverpool still own the player so they’ve got the final say on him."

The Verdict

I think Kent would be a brilliant signing for Leeds. He did very well while on loan at Rangers last season and I think he'd be able to make an impact in the Championship.

These comments from Gerrard will not come as a surprise to Leeds fans, as Rangers have been known to be interested in Kent for some time.

I personally think that a move to Elland Road would be a good option for Kent, but it seems as though Leeds may struggle to sign him, as he is thought to want either a permanent move away from Liverpool or another loan spell at Rangers.
