Millwall resume their Championship campaign tomorrow afternoon when they host Bolton Wanderers at The Den in what is an early relegation six-pointer.

The two clubs are level on points and are separated by only goal difference, with the Lions in 22nd, two places and five goals better off than their opponents on Saturday.

Neil Harris’ side are just two points worse off than at this stage last season and have scored more goals.

It is, however, at the back where they have struggled, conceding ten more goals and registering four less clean sheets than after the same amount of games the year prior.

The Lions were 3-2 up heading into the closing stages against Norwich City last time out before conceding two goals in added time to lose the match 4-3 in spectacular fashion.

And Millwall striker Steve Morison spoke candidly to EFL Matters (November 22, 2018, 19:00) as he assessed what has gone wrong, and what the club are doing to put things right.

“We spoke about it this week,” Morison said on Sky, after a meeting during the international break.

“We had a meeting which was quite a funny one in terms of; we’ve scored more goals than last year, but we’ve conceded more.

“We’ve been working really hard this week; you can ask any of the lads, we have literally done attack v defence all week.

"And we’ve worked really, really hard on getting back to what we were good at last year - we’ve come away from that a little bit.

“Maybe it’s a little bit of confidence or arrogance in the squad that we can just do it - we’ve got to work hard.

“It’s the fundamentals to what we do as a football club, which is to work really, really hard. We are going to get back to that.”

The verdict

Typical forthright opinions from Steve Morison who is right in his approach to how Millwall have been this season.

They have looked a little over confident at times after last year’s thrilling finish, and that success has seen them come into this campaign with a hangover of sorts.

The Norwich result could end up being a turning point in their season, similar to another 4-3 result that turned their campaign around last year when they beat Leeds before going on an incredible run.

Defeat to the Canaries could be a wake-up call, and if they have been doing attack v defence all week, then the loss could be what they needed to ground them again and start from scratch to improve and move up the table.
