Cardiff City boss Steve Morison has told the fans to get 'excited' as he prepares an overhaul of his squad in the summer.

The Bluebirds ended a disappointing campaign with a 1-0 success at Derby County that saw the Welsh outfit finish 18th in the table, with Morison having taken over initially back in November.

So, this will be his first full pre-season with the team and changes are expected in the summer. A host of players are out of contract, with Morison having already revealed he will be bringing in a lot of his own players.

Work on securing new recruits has begun and the boss gave a positive update when speaking to Wales Online.

"There is stuff we'd like to do, but that is personnel-driven and now I've got the opportunity to bring the personnel in so I don't have to sit here and say, 'I can't do that because we haven't got the personnel'.

"I am really happy and really positive about everything that's going on and my message to the fans is: Be as excited as we are, because it will be a good time."

The verdict

This is certainly a very optimistic message from Morison and you can understand why he is looking forward to really making his mark on the squad after inheriting a group that maybe doesn't play how he wants.

He's made it clear that major changes will be taking place and some will feel that's needed after an underwhelming campaign.

Of course, some fans will wait until they actually see what happens before getting carried away and it will be interesting to see what new faces do arrive in the coming months.
