Steve McClaren would be wise to try and tempt former captain into Queens Park Rangers move

Published

Steve McClaren has waltzed into Queens Park Rangers this week and straight away turned his attentions towards playing down the suggestions that he can instantly turn the club into genuine promotion contenders.

Given his years of experience in management and coaching at the very highest level there will be a real buzz of excitement around Loftus Road by the time the season gets underway.

McClaren might play down any thoughts that he can turn the club into challengers for the play-offs but that won’t stop him delving into an extensive contacts book to try and create a squad capable of great things.

With Nedum Onuoha recently departed from Loftus Road one area that McClaren might decide to strengthen is at the heart of the defence and a move for Richard Keogh could make logical sense.

The Derby County man was McClaren’s captain during his two spells with the Rams and with Gary Rowett on the way out of the East Midlands-based club, it might cast doubts over Keogh’s future under the new manager.

The 31-year-old is not the best footballer in the Championship but what he lacks in talent he more than makes up for with raw defensive qualities and bucket loads of passion.

Having spent some time on the sidelines during the 2017/18 campaign Keogh might see the chance to link back up with his former boss as the perfect opportunity to begin a new chapter in his career following six years at Derby.

QPR fans, would you welcome Richard Keogh to the football club during the summer transfer window? Let us know in the comments below!!!
