Derby County manager Steve McClaren has praised his counterpart Nigel Clough, ahead of the Rams’ clash with Burton Albion this evening, reports the Derby Telegraph.
Clough, a former Derby manager, returns to the Pride Park Stadium for the first time since his departure from the club in 2013.
McClaren replaced Clough in the Derby hot seat four years ago, and has since returned for a second-spell in-charge of the club, he told the Derby Telegraph: “I’ve got a lot of respect and admiration for Nigel Clough for what he’s done – including the job he did here.
“We applauded that when we first came in – he left us with a very good squad of players, and he’s got that at Burton.”
McClaren’s side head into tonight’s game 11th in the Sky Bet Championship table and looking to close an 11 point gap to the top-six, as they hope to rescue their Play-Off ambitions.
Derby were not in action last weekend, and have not played since last week’s shock defeat to Cardiff City, who defeated the Rams 4-3.
Burton will be full of confidence ahead of tonight’s clash, following their 2-1 victory over Norwich City on Saturday, as Clough’s side stepped up their fight for Championship survival.
