Queens Park Rangers manager Steve McClaren praised his side's professionalism as they beat Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road on Saturday, report the BBC

The result means that the Rs now sit in 16th place but just four points away from Norwich City who currently occupy the final playoff place.

"We needed to start the week well and we were very professional," McClaren told BBC Radio London.

"We could have scored more goals and that has been our letdown in recent weeks, but certainly we're conceding less than we were the first four games.

"We're slowly moving forward from a bad start and gaining confidence and belief."

It took just 13 minutes for the visitors to take the lead against their struggling opponents when Luke Freeman's corner proved too difficult for Dean Gurken to handle as he fumbled the ball into his own net.

The Rs were given the chance to make it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time when Toto Nsiala was judged to have fouled Ebere Eze in the penalty area.

Tomar Hemed made no mistake from the spot to send his side well on their way to a much-needed win.

Gerken kept his side in the match throughout the second half with a string of fine saves to deny both Hemed and Eze on multiple occasions.

The verdict

You have got to hand it to Steve McClaren he has done a brilliant job of turning QPR's season around.

After four games they looked as good as relegated but he has steadied the ship and made them a very hard to beat unit.
