New QPR boss Steve McClaren is hoping to boost his attacking options at Loftus Road by bringing in two players he knows very well in Chris Martin and Jamie Ward.

The former England boss has worked with Martin at Derby County and is hoping to conclude a £500,000 deal to bring him to London according to the Mirror.

As well as that, Jamie Ward, who played for McClaren at Nottingham Forest is a target going by the same report.

The Northern Ireland international is out of favour at the City Ground and joined Cardiff City on loan in January for the remainder of the season.

However, he didn't play a major role in helping the Bluebirds secure promotion and it's highly unlikely they will look to make it permanent in the Premier League.

Therefore, he should certainly be available and within QPR's budget, which McClaren has already admitted won't be the biggest as the club look to continue to cut costs.

The ex-Middlesbrough boss was named as Ian Holloway's successor on Friday.

The Verdict

QPR need to add to their squad and bringing in two experienced players could be good to balance the squad given the exciting youngsters they have coming through.

It makes sense for McClaren to go for players he knows and he clearly thinks the duo will bring a lot to the squad.

Given both Derby and Forest will be keen to shift the pair doing a deal shouldn't be too much of an issue for the R's.
