Queens Park Rangers manager Steve McClaren was delighted with his players after they recorded a fine 1-0 win at the City Ground to further enhance their own slim play-off aspirations.

The Hoops went into the tie as massive underdogs, with former Forest player Jack Robinson saying Forest could 'blow away' his former side. That didn't happen and Toni Leistner's goal proved the difference between the two sides.

The former England manager was delighted with his players efforts in what was their first ever win at Forest.

“We all know the history," he told London Football News. "We know that this is a tough place to come and a very good Forest team, but I thought the players were magnificent."

“It was an unbelievable result for us and I’m so proud of the players. It was a win against a very, very good team. All you ask for is for a solid performance, and for the players to work for each other and be competitive. We are seeing that."

The unlikely result means QPR go into the festive period in tenth place, with four points the difference between them and sixth-placed Sheffield United. They're level with Birmingham City, another side who had a horrible summer, but who also continue to defy the critics.

The R's now face Reading and Ipswich at home to conclude their 2018, with Aston Villa the destination in a tough opening fixture of 2019.

The Verdict

This was a big win for Rangers, but was no doubt fuelled by Robinson's pre-match comments.

He gave his former side the perfect motivation for the fixture and doubtless McClaren needed to do nothing more than pin his quote on the dressing room wall and wait in the car for the three points.
