Steve McClaren has admitted he may be forced to change a winning team tonight, as his Derby County side face Preston North End, reports the Derby Telegraph.

The Rams recorded their first victory since January at the weekend, coming from behind to beat Barnsley 2-1 at the Pride Park Stadium.

After a winless February, McClaren was forced to change his favoured 4-3-3 line-up to a more attacking 4-2-3-1 formation, against Barnsley, which reaped rewards as goals from Tom Ince and David Nugent secured three-points.

Ahead of tonight’s clash with Preston, McClaren was asked if he would use the same formation and personnel, he told the Derby Telegraph: "May be the same system, but might be different personnel. We are just waiting on one or two with little knocks but we are looking for the same kind of attitude and performance.

"I am searching, like I did when I first came, for an XI that will win consistently. If they do that, they will stay in the team.

"I would like to give everybody, as long as they are fit, an opportunity to do that again tonight but might not be able to because of one or two knocks."

Despite last Saturday’s victory, Derby’s chances of making the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs remain slim.

McClaren’s side are tenth in the league, ten-points behind sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday, with just 11 fixtures remaining.

Victory over Preston this evening will see Derby leapfrog their opponents, and potentially move into eighth, depending on Norwich City’s result against Bristol City.
