Speaking to the club, Derby County manager Steve McClaren has praised Matej Vydra after his reintroduction to the first-team against Barnsley.

Derby defeated Barnsley 2-1, to record their first victory since January, with Vydra starting just his 13th Sky Bet Championship game of the season.

Vydra's selection was a surprise, as he lined up on the left of a 4-2-3-1 formation.

McClaren was previewing Derby’s clash with Preston North End tomorrow, when he spoke about Vydra’s attitude and his limited appearances, he said: “He's been unlucky on occasions. His attitude has been great; he's not moaned or sulked at all. He works so hard.”

The former Watford striker has struggled for opportunities this season due to McClaren’s favoured 4-3-3 formation, with Darren Bent and recently David Nugent preferred as a central striker.

However, a more attacking line-up on Saturday saw Vydra emerge as a surprise selection.

Vydra joined Derby during the summer transfer window, becoming the club’s most expensive ever signing.
