According to The Derby Telegraph, Steve McClaren has admitted his surprise to find Chris Martin out on loan.

Chris Martin is currently on a season-long loan at Fulham after Derby County sanctioned a temporary exit in the summer.

Nigel Pearson was in charge of Derby when Martin was sent out on loan and this is a decision which McClaren finds perplexing.

The current deal means that Martin stays at Fulham until the end of the season and McClaren admits that the chances of the Scotsman returning to Derby County in January look bleak.

This is because all three parties would have to agree on it and it looks like Chris Martin is happy at Fulham and Jokanovic is using him as a key player.

The 28-year-old has six goals this season for the Cottagers and Fulham are said to be keen on making his deal permanent.
