Steve Evans is leading a revolution at Mansfield Town this summer.

A host of signings have already landed at Field Mill this summer, with ten new additions to the squad already.

This is a real statement of intent by the Mansfield board, who will look to next season with the minimum expectation of a top seven finish.

Evans has admitted that he would like to add up to another four men to his squad before the current window expires at the end of August, and one man the former Boston United boss may turn to is the experienced Gary McSheffrey.

Set to be released by current club Doncaster Rovers at the end of his contract, the 34 year old journeyman would add immense experience to a young Mansfield side.

Having played in the Premier League with Birmingham City, McSheffrey knows what it takes to compete at the top, and has a record of promotion from League Two after securing a top three finish with Doncaster this season.

A season long deal would make sense for all parties, with Mansfield acquiring an experienced head with the ability to still contribute on the pitch, and McSheffrey prolonging his career in the Football League.

Whether McSheffrey acquires one of the final four spots Evans’ discussed remains to be seen, but a move for the player would represent an excellent addition to this ambitious project undertaken in Nottinghamshire this summer.
