Birmingham City have not enjoyed the most successful of Championship seasons so far, with the Blues teetering on the edge of a place in the bottom-three.

A run of poor results rooted the Blues firmly in the relegation for much of the first half of the campaign, but since the appointment of Steve Cotterill, the club have managed to claw themselves out of the relegation spots.

Many will have argued the side from the West Midlands to have been extremely unlucky this season, with the squad ravaged by injuries for much of the campaign.

Arsenal loanee Carl Jenkinson was ruled out for over four months after dislocating his shoulder just 33 minutes into his debut back in August, but Cotterill has now been able to provide fans with the news they have been waiting to hear.

The former England defender is now back in training alongside Jason Lowe, David Davis, Stephen Gleeson and Craig Gardner, with the quintet set to return to first-team affairs over the course of the next few games.

Cotterill also confirmed to the club's official site that Maxime Colin was nearing a return to training, with the Frenchman edging closer to a return following a hamstring injury picked up in October.

The Verdict

What a relief this will be for Birmingham fans.

With six player nearing a return to fitness, that is almost a full side, and Cotterill will be delighted to be able to select from a large pool of players heading into the busy Christmas fixture list.

Going into this period with a threadbare squad was a recipe for disaster, but a little pressure will be relieved following this positive news.

The returning men now have to complete the job on the field, and begin to guide the Blues away from the bottom-three, a position they would never envisaged they would have found themselves in following a summer of heavy recruitment.
