Birmingham City haven’t enjoyed the best of spells this season, but picking up a point on the road at promotion-chasing Sheffield United will be met with great delight by all associated the club.

An assured display which saw the Blues unlucky not to escape Bramall Lane with three points, manager Steve Cotterill can draw a lot of positives from the game heading into their huge West Midlands derby against league leaders, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 53-year-old boss has found results tough to come by since his appointment as manager last month, although the Blues have begun to find points in recent weeks.

Summer signings who had failed to integrate into the squad are beginning to settle, and the squad is well on the way towards a clean bill of health.

“I thought it was a good performance from the lads,” reflected Cotterill to the Blues' official website. “It was a good point for us but it could have been three.

“The fans have come and for once we’re sending them home slightly happy.

“Our support has helped us get over the line today and it’s pleasing not only for us but also for them.”

The Verdict

After a shocking start to the season, the Blues finally look to be heading back on track.

Not many would have backed Cotterill’s men against the Blades, but they gave the home side a real scare in front of a raucous home crowd.

Birmingham need to just continue what they are doing, and the points will come to the St Andrew’s side.

I can’t see them going down this year, but fans would definitely take survival at this stage.
