Birmingham City have begun to find form at the perfect time towards the bottom of the Championship table, with Steve Cotterill’s side securing maximum points from their past two fixtures.

The results have seen the Blues climb out of the bottom three and into nineteenth place, a much more breathable three points from the dreaded drop zone.

Cotterill’s men have an opportunity to distract themselves from their league worries tomorrow evening when they welcome Huddersfield Town to St Andrew’s, with the two sides set to do battle again after drawing at The John Smith’s Stadium in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The winners face a glamour tie in the next round, with Manchester United set to visit whoever comes through the tie in the second city on Tuesday evening.

“Going into a cup tie against a team in a higher division there isn’t a lot of pressure on us,” Blues boss Cotterill told the club’s official site.

“But if we can go and perform as well as we did in the first leg, we felt that we could have won it anyway.”

The Verdict

Birmingham fans would love to progress to the next round and welcome Manchester United to St Andrew’s once again, but know they face a tough test against Premier League opposition on Tuesday night.

Some may say an FA Cup run will distract from the more important task of remaining in the second tier, but perhaps a good run of results in this year’s competition will see a new found sense of confidence engulf the squad in the coming weeks.

Cotterill will be of the firm belief that league duties come first, but with United waiting, the manager will be keen to see his side progress.
