Swansea City could be without key stars Marc Guehi and Andre Ayew when Rotherham United visit the Liberty Stadium today, according to manager Steve Cooper.
The Welsh side have picked up some strong results in recent weeks, with their recent loss to Norwich City being their first in five games.
But their chances of a victory against a rejuvenated Millers team may have been knocked due to the latest update from Cooper regarding two of his stars.
Ayew has been the key player in the Swans side, playing every single minute of the league campaign and notching five goals and four assists.
Guehi meanwhile returned to South Wales from Chelsea yet again and has quickly shown to be one of the most talented youngsters in the EFL, and alongside Ben Cabango and Ryan Bennett has created one of the best defensive units in the league.
But now Cooper is sweating on both players’ availability and the news doesn’t sound too great.
“Andre and Marc came back early from international duty, that was precautionary more than anything else,” Cooper told the club’s official website.
“Obviously we have had a busy schedule and they have played every minute of every league game up until now.
“They then went into a full-on international camp, so they are naturally going to be tired and, like everybody, going to be at risk of fatigue.
“From fatigue you can start feeling some strains and muscle soreness, so they came back early as a precaution.
“They are doubts for the weekend, but we haven’t made a final call on it as yet.”
On the bare face of it, you’d probably expect Swansea to have the strength in depth to dispatch of Rotherham without the two stricken players.
But don’t be fooled – Paul Warne has got his side firing in recent weeks and went into the international break on the back of a 2-1 victory over Preston North End.
Cooper’s update won’t give Swans fans major confidence, and with a lot of games coming up between now and Christmas, you’d think that Ayew and Guehi will not be rushed back.
