Swansea are 4th place in the Championship, a point away from first place West Bromwich Albion under new manager Steve Cooper. This weekend they travel to Barnsley who are 23rd in the league with just one win so far.

Speaking via the club's website ahead of his team's away trip to Barnsley, Cooper said he wants his side to dominate and control matches. He said the players are 'good enough technically to control momentum and possession'. He commented on the side's strong mentality and that he's always looking to improve the way his team play.

Cooper wants to control the games instead of allowing teams to get back into it and stop it being 'a bit too back and forth' like recent matches. He wants 'more calmness' and said if his team could do that he would 'back them against anybody'.

The Verdict

Swansea currently average 52.5% possession, the 7th highest in the league. But Cooper wants more. After a strong brand of possession football under previous manager Graham Potter, Cooper wants to play a good brand too and has the players to do so.

Last week Swansea were devastated by a 1-0 loss to Stoke who were without a win before that. Cooper's team need to secure the easy points to remain in the title race and Barnsley is another they can't throw away.
