Swansea City manager Steve Cooper has revealed that winger Bersant Celina missed the midweek defeat at Fulham because of illness.

The Kosovo international has been a regular in the Swansea side this season, making 31 appearances across all competitions and scoring two goals.

Speaking to WalesOnline, Cooper said: "He's struggled for a few days with a sickness bug. It's not just him being ill, it's making sure that he doesn't pass it on to the other players.

"I'll be led by the doctor on that one, whether he's back in on Thursday or Friday. We'll wait and see, but we're hopeful."

Celina joined the club on a permanent deal from Premier League heavyweights Manchester City in the summer of 2018 and the 23-year-old has gone on to establish himself in the Championship across the last year-and-a-half.

Steve Cooper has been a fan of the winger since his appointment in the summer as he has continued to get in the Swansea side despite some inconsistent displays.

The Swans manager recently revealed that he had talks with the frustrated forward after the 4-4 draw with Hull City a couple of weeks ago.

Swansea are currently trying to drag themselves back into the play-off race after winning one game in their last five. They are five points off the top six and they face a tough run across the next few weeks.

Celina could be back to face Blackburn Rovers tomorrow, who are a point and a place above the Swans.

The Verdict

Celina was a miss against Fulham in midweek but they got by without him.

He will be wanting to show his critics what he is really capable of across the next couple of weeks as he tries to return to form after a tough season so far. The winger will be aiming to be a catalyst in Swansea's push for the play-offs.
