Swansea boss Steve Cooper has provided an update on the status of a few Swans players whose future remains uncertain.

Borja Baston, Andrew Ayew and Tom Carroll all spent time away from the club last season but Steve Cooper has offered each a clean slate, and has been rewarded so far for the faith he has shown.

Borja Baston has scored three goals in three games and is finally beginning to show why the club spent £15m on him in 2016, but the striker is still attracting interest in Spain and could depart before the end of the summer.

Ayew is also linked with a move away but the former England U17s boss is keen on keeping the pair.

Speaking in the QPR pre-match press conference, Cooper said: "I’ve only ever focused on Borja the footballer. As I said from day one, it’s only been positive in terms of his work ethic and appetite to improve.

"He’s a very liked player and he’s playing well, he’s part of the team. The team created some good chances for him at the weekend and he took them well."

He also admitted that he is planning for life with Ayew in the squad, as he has had no discussions with chairman Trevor Birch in regard to the player leaving, but despite that Cooper is still keen for the European transfer window to close.

Tom Carroll, who spent a period of last season on loan with Aston Villa, is also nearing a return and will feature in a Swansea U23's match on Monday - and Cooper is planning for him to play a role this season.

The Verdict

It is a big turnaround for the likes of Borja Baston and Andrew Ayew but they have the ability to be key players for Swansea this season, and after Oli McBurnie's departure they are now much-needed players.

Baston has got off to a brilliant start and could become a pivotal member of the starting line-up, and therefore it would be a mistake to let him go now, and undermine the manager somewhat.

The return of Carroll should also be a big boost. He is well-suited to the passing style Cooper plays with and his return should fill fans and players alike with optimism.
