Swansea City manager Steve Cooper has claimed he was told by the club's hierarchy not to include winger Kristoffer Peterson in his side's matchday squad for their 2-1 win over Millwall on Saturday afternoon.
Peterson is reportedly closing in on a move to German side Fortuna Dusseldorf for a £400,000 fee, and was absent from Swansea's matchday 18 on Saturday, although it seems that deal is being done somewhat against the wishes of Cooper.
Speaking about the situation surrounding Peterson's seemingly imminent departure after his side's third win in four league games this season, Cooper told Wales Online: "Well I don't know the reason behind it.
"I didn't want to lose anybody, we're going into the busiest Championship schedule ever."
Indeed, it seems as though the decision to apparently let the 25-year-old leave is not one that the Swansea manager has had much of a say in, as when asked about that, he added: "I think all clubs are different, with who makes decisions.
"I just got the instruction this morning, not to involve Kris, and what happens next with him I'm not too sure."
Peterson only joined Swansea from Dutch side Heracles last summer, and has since made just 12 appearances in all competitions for Swansea - scoring twice - having spent the second half of last season back in Holland on loan with Utrecht.
The Verdict
You have to say this is not a good look for Swansea's hierarchy.
Even if Cooper does remain in charge at the Liberty Stadium, you feel there is going to be some amount of tension between him and the board over this, and you could certainly understand the Swansea manager wanting more clarity around this situation.
Indeed, you also feel that this is interference from the board something that other potential managerial candidates may be wary of in the future, and they will have to hope that this does not put any of them off such a deal.
