Swansea City manager Steve Cooper has revealed that former Swans player Leon Britton is responsible for keeping an eye on the players out on loan from The Liberty Stadium.

Britton was named as the club's first ever sporting director last September and he continues to play a pivotal role behind the scenes at the south Wales club.

There are a number of players that are out on loan from the club such as Barrie McKay, Declan John, Kristoffer Peterson, Brandon Cooper, Jack Evans, Courtney Baker-Richardson, Jefferson Montero, Steven Benda and Joel Asoro.

Speaking to WalesOnline, Cooper said: "Leon is ultimately responsible for managing the loans, in and out.

"Obviously the loans we have here, we report back to the parent clubs on all aspects of the player performance.

"Likewise, we do the same with our boys out on loan because there's a lot of lads who went out in the summer as well.

"So there's processes in place to monitor them and they're certainly not forgotten about. They're constantly observed with the idea of doing what's right for the football club and for the players when we have bridges to cross.

"It isn't just about players leaving because it's the right thing to do, it's about leaving and monitoring and making sure we can make a decision with rationale in the summer."

Peterson has shone since making the move to Utrecht in the January transfer window with two goals coming in his four appearances back in the Dutch top flight. McKay has scored one in five since joining Fleetwood and Asoro has netted three in 17 for Groningen.

The loans out during January were met with loans coming in during the winter window as Rhian Brewster joined from Liverpool and Marc Guehi along with Connor Gallagher arrived on loan from Chelsea.

The Verdict

Britton is one of the right people to keep an eye on the players away on loan as he knows what standard they need to be playing at.

Having the former Swansea star in place allows Cooper to focus more on what his current side are doing while getting regular updates from Britton on the players' progress away from the club.

Loans are always a big part of an individual player's development and Cooper has managed the loan deals correctly during his first season in club management.
