Swansea City manager Steve Cooper questioned the desire of his players after a humbling 5-1 FA Cup defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Sunday afternoon, adding that he was "fuming" with the performance.

The Swans were unable to cope with QPR's attacking threat during the game, as the Hoops scored from five of their ten shots on target to condemn the South Wales side to their second defeat by a 5-1 scoreline this season.

Swansea found themselves 3-0 down at half-time courtesy of a brace from Jordan Hugill and another strike for Bright Osayi-Samuel.

George Byers' goal midway through the second half could have kick-started an unlikely comeback but it wasn't to be, as QPR struck twice in the final fifteen minutes to inflict a painful defeat for the South Wales side.

With Swansea dumped out of the FA Cup for another year, Steve Cooper was scathing of his players after the game.

"It's self-inflicted. We've got no-one to blame but ourselves." Cooper said on the club website.

"Our basics of attacking and particularly defending were nowhere near the average, never mind beyond that."

The 40-year-old also said that his players did not try hard enough.

"I can accept getting beat, but I can't accept not trying and not giving your all."

Swansea will now turn back to their league schedule and have the perfect opportunity to bounce back this coming Sunday as they travel to the Welsh capital to take on arch-rivals Cardiff City in the South Wales derby.

The Verdict

Steve Cooper certainly pulled no punches in his post-match press conference, making it clear to his players that the standard shown against Queens Park Rangers was far from good enough.

It remains to be seen what reaction his blunt criticism will have amongst the dressing room, but his side will have to pick themselves up fairly quickly and get ready for one of their biggest games of the season at the weekend against Cardiff.
