Swansea City boss Steve Cooper has revealed that Ryan Bennett has a chance of being involved against Cardiff City this weekend.

The centre-back, who only joined from Wolves this summer, has featured in nine league games this season, and has generally impressed. However, he has missed the last two.

And, speaking to the club's official media, the Swans chief gave an update on the 30-year-old, indicating that he will be given as long as possible to prove his fitness for this huge game.

"Ryan has picked up a bit of a hamstring strain, we are giving him every chance to try and be available for the weekend."

Whilst the Swans have kept successive clean sheets without Bennett, his experience could be crucial for what will be a tough test against the Bluebirds, who have won four games on the spin.

Despite that, they still trail Swansea in the table, and Cooper's side know that a victory at the home of their bitter rivals will move them up to second for a few hours at least.

The verdict

This is a pretty positive update for Cooper, who will want a full squad to pick from this weekend.

With Bennett, he has a reliable player, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him in the XI if he's available, even though they've done well without him recently.

Either way, Swansea are in a healthy position going into this game, and no matter which side is selected, they will be confident of a win.
