Nottingham Forest defender Steve Cook is set to remain at the City Ground for the remainder of the season.

That is as per journalist Mark McAdam, who reports that despite interest from numerous sides, the defender will not be leaving the Premier League outfit.

This update comes after reports this morning claimed that a trio of Championship sides were interested in bringing the experienced defender in on deadline day.

Those clubs were said to be Birmingham City, Luton Town, and Stoke City.

Later in the day, Blackburn Rovers also emerged as potential suitors for the 31-year-old.

It now appears that none of those moves will come to fruition.

Cook has seemingly made the decision to remain at Nottingham Forest despite finding game time very hard to come by in the Midlands of late.

Indeed, at present, the 31-year-old has featured just 12 times in the Premier League and a further two times in cup competitions.

Cook had started the campaign as somewhat of a regular, but has not started a league match since Forest's 2-2 draw at home to Brentford on the 5th November.

The Verdict

Having racked up 144 appearances in the second tier, as well as 180 in the Premier League, Steve Cook has experience that could have added so much to any of the above Championship sides.

This is even more so the case when you factor in his two promotion winning campaigns with AFC Bournemouth in 2014/15 and Forest last season.

It seems, though, that he is set to remain, perhaps feeling that he can win his place back in the Reds defence.

With the club having lost just one of their last six league matches, though, it's unlikely boss Steve Cooper will be looking to mix things up too much in the immediate future.
