Steve Cook has heaped praise of Asmir Begovic in a glowing post on social media.

The 34-year-old stopper brought his four-year spell with Bournemouth to an end of Tuesday evening after completing a permanent move to Premier League side Everton who he has joined on a one-year contract with the option of a further year.

Begovic had moved to to the South Coast back in 2017 and established himself as a key player last term after making 51 appearances for the club as they battled to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Unfortunately after falling short the decision was made to move on, with a move to Goodison Park offering the experienced stopper a chance to showcase his qualities in the top flight once again.

While clearly excited about the move, Begovic shared a message with the Bournemouth supporters which triggered a warm response from the club's captain, Steve Cook.

Taking to social media, Begovic said: "Just wanted to say a big thankyou to everyone at Bournemouth and the city of Bournemouth for supporting me over my two spells at the football club.

"I wish you all the very best in the future and see you around."

That led to a response from Bournemouth captain Steve Cook who took to social media with a message of his own.

He said: "All the best As!!

"A top goalkeeper, an absolute pro and a great man. You will be missed on and off the pitch. Good luck mate."

The verdict

It's clear that Asmir Begovic was highly-regarded at the Vitality Stadium.

The 34-year-old is a model professional who brings heaps of experience to any club who he plays for.

For him to leave the Cherries is a massive blow for Scott Parker's side as they prepare for a fresh promotion challenge, but it's not one that was entirely unexpected.

For Steve Cook to wish him all the best is telling of how big a miss he'll be for Bournemouth and leaves them with a big challenge for the season ahead.
