Clarke, 50, was dismissed as West Brom boss last year and could now be in contention to get the job at Leeds.

It is understood that owner Massimo Cellino is contemplating hiring another British coach, with more experience than Hockaday.

Whilst it is still early days, Sky Bet have made former Catania boss Rolando Maran favourite at 1/3 after being heavily linked to the job in the Italian media earlier in the week. Clarke has entered the betting at 6/1, whilst Gary McAllister is 25/1 and Eamonn Dolan 40/1 having being interviewed for the job previous to Hockaday’s appointment.
