Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has heaped praise on goalkeeper Orjan Nyland and felt he was desperately unlucky not to keep a clean sheet against Reading at the weekend.

The West Midlands side conceded a late equaliser against the Royals, with Sam Baldock snatching a point in injury time from the spot.

It was particularly harsh on Norwegian international Nyland who had produced a stunning double save prior to that, which appeared as though it would secure Bruce's men the win.

And, despite the late agony, the boss was delighted with the contribution of his keeper.

"His saves should have got us the win. I would have been delighted for the boy to do that. They were two great saves, similar to Jim Montgomery in 1973," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"He has shown what we have got now. He has produced two wonderful saves and deserves a clean sheet."

The 27-year old is still looking for his first shutout, however he has improved significantly after a nervy performance in a recent draw with Ipswich.

The Verdict

This was a very positive performance from Nyland and he delivered at a decisive moment in the game with that outstanding double save.

That was worth winning any game but unfortunately a late lapse allowed Reading to score.

Obviously, that's hugely frustrating for Nyland and the team but after his mistake against Ipswich he will now be a lot more confident and his reaction to that has been pleasing for Bruce.
